Rich Burt was the first City of Pacifica high school basketball coach. In 1960 Terra Nova High School opened and Coach Burt introduced the school to the sport. This was the first attempt at an organized basketball program in Pacifica. The team played a schedule of junior varsity and small school varsity teams. Over the following four years, as the athletes' skill and shooting ability improved, Terra Nova finished in third place three times in the North Peninsula League. After the 1966 season, Coach Burt retired from coaching to become the assistant principal of administration at Terra Nova.
