Bay Discovery

The Discovery, on November 4, 1769 was from today's scenic Pacifica, sister city of
historic Balaguer, Spain, Portola's Birthplace.

Point San Pedro Guards the south entrance to the Golden Gate. It was on ancient maps
and the sea explorer Cabrillo probably saw it in 1542. Portola camped nearby in 1769 (A),
before his expedition discovered San Francisco Bay from a 1200 foot mountain ridge (x) in
today's scenic Pacifica. Beyond - San Francisco airport, San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame
and San Mateo.
